Privacy at Dimey
What information Dimey handles and the choices available to you.

Analytics and cookie choices
Cloudflare provides basic statistics about page views, incoming visits and page performance without analytics cookies or a persistent visitor identity. Its current beacon removes query strings and fragments from page and referrer URLs. It receives network information needed to process requests and says it discards source IP addresses at its nearest data centre. Statistics are estimates, may be sampled, and do not count distinct people reliably.
If you accept optional analytics, Google Analytics uses cookies to measure visits and returning visits, pages viewed, and actions such as opening a listing or clicking a menu or directions. Dimey sends fixed action names and simplified page addresses, excluding typed searches, precise device coordinates, account IDs and form contents. Google receives device and network information and may infer an approximate location. We do not enable advertising personalization, Google signals or session recordings.
Rejecting optional cookies keeps Google Analytics off; basic Cloudflare statistics remain allowed unless you turn them off below. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal disables both. Choices are remembered on this browser for up to six months when storage is available. Providers may process information outside Canada. Cloudflare may receive route paths as you navigate, including paths reached after a public page; Google measurement excludes admin, sign-in and contact pages.
Google Analytics: Off. Basic traffic statistics: Allowed.
These choices apply to this browser. Turning analytics off does not delete information already received by a provider.
Read Cloudflare's data collection explanation and how Google uses information from sites using its services. Provider records have their own retention periods; expiry of your cookie choice does not delete those records.
Device location and search
After you choose Use my current location in Share a find, your browser may provide device coordinates if permission is allowed. Dimey does not request them in the background. Unsent coordinates are cleared when you edit the restaurant name or address or close the form. Submitted coordinates are stored as the restaurant location. You can decline or revoke location permission in your browser settings, but revoking it does not delete a find you already submitted.
When you click Use my location on the map, your browser asks for location permission if needed. If you allow it, Dimey uses a one-time location in your browser to centre the map and show a marker. These coordinates are not sent to Dimey's web server or saved in its database or browser storage. They stay only in this page's memory and are cleared when you reload or leave the page. We do not track your movement; the marker changes only when you click Refresh my location. The map provider receives requests for map tiles around that position and may infer the area from those requests.
Autocomplete sends typed restaurant names, addresses, or map areas through Dimey's server to an address provider; a backup may be used. When you submit a find, Dimey may also send its address to an address provider to look up coordinates. A limited in-memory cache may temporarily store successful queries and results. Food search filters Dimey's existing listings.
Sign-in and your choices
You can browse Dimey without signing in. Reporting a deal that may have changed requires Google sign-in. If you use Google sign-in, Google and Dimey's authentication provider process information needed to verify your identity and manage your account. The provider handles your session, including browser cookies, and Dimey uses your account identity for signed-in features. Signing out or clearing site session data ends that browser session but does not delete a find you submitted.
If you choose to report a deal while signed out, this browser tab may temporarily store the deal ID and your discovery filters so Dimey can return you to the same results after sign-in. The return data expires after 20 minutes and is removed when read. If tab storage is unavailable, you return with the default filters.
Community activity
Verification votes use an IP-derived identifier to detect repeat activity. Deal likes and dislikes use your signed-in account ID to keep one choice per person; only the totals are public. Stale-offer reports require sign-in and use your account ID to prevent duplicate reports. Only report totals are public. We also temporarily use IP addresses to limit abusive requests. Older reports may retain the IP-derived identifiers used before sign-in was required.
Contact messages
The contact form asks for a reply email and message; your name is optional. Our email provider delivers it to Dimey's support inbox. The app does not save messages in its database, though the provider or email systems may keep copies.
Maps, hosting, and service providers
Map requests send your IP address and requested tiles to our map provider. When you recenter with device location, the requested tiles cover the area around your captured position; Dimey does not send the coordinates to its own server or save them in its database.
Dimey uses services for hosting, database storage, authentication, address search, email, and maps. They receive information needed for their roles and may process request or security information outside Canada. Their own practices govern their systems; we have not confirmed every provider's logs, processing locations, or retention periods.
External menu, map, and direction links are governed by that service's privacy practices.
Storage and retention
Submissions may stay while reviewed or used as listings. Account data, votes, reports, contact emails, logs, backups, and provider copies can have different retention periods; Dimey has no fixed deletion timetable for all records.
No online service can promise perfect security. Do not include sensitive information in public submissions or ordinary contact messages.
Children's information
Please avoid including children’s personal information in public submissions. Contact us about information submitted by a child.
Privacy questions or requests
Use the Dimey contact form to request access to information about your account or a find, ask us to correct or remove it, or withdraw consent where processing depends on it. Include enough detail for us to locate the information; we may ask you to confirm your identity. Requests are handled under applicable privacy laws and lawful recordkeeping duties.
If you are in British Columbia and have a privacy complaint, you can also contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
